“The Ritual of Dress” : Dior Homme

Dior Homme – The Ritual Of Dress from Jose Otero on Vimeo.

Designed by Kris van Assche and styled by Way Perry, “The Ritual of Dress” is an eerie and somewhat sorcerous video collaboration between Wonderland, Dior Homme, and Verso filmed in the deserted Chamber Sands.

BOOOOOOOM!’s “Small Victories”

One of my favorite inspriational blogs, BOOOOOOOM!, just announced their 10th project, Small Victories.

Small Victories is a photographic celebration of the everyday! A collection of 4×6 prints of the quietly beautiful, unintentionally funny, people and things all around us. I believe it is these little moments that make life worth living.

In May, a photo show of the compiled chosen images will be held at Above Second gallery in Hong Kong.

So many times we overlook little things (or “small victories”, I should say) that incessantly happen all around us because we are too caught up with our fast-paced lives. I challenge you to stop running around like a headless chicken and/or to get off your chair, away from your computer and do the following to enter BOOOOOOOM!’s project:

1. Take a million photos.

2. Select your best work (3 photos max, only one will be shown).

3. Get 4″ x 6″ prints made (full bleed, no borders).

4. Clearly write your name and email on the back of each photo.

5. Put the photo(s) in an envelope and mail to:

Deadline for submissions is April 30th 2010.

Here’s an example a “small victory” to get your creative eyes rollin’:

The Meatball Shop

Who doesn’t love a big, juicy meatball? Well, I have to admit I don’t considering I’m a vegetarian. But after hearing a lot of buzz about the Lower East Side’s new Meatball Shop on Stanton and Allen, I decided to make use of the gorgeous weather and walk over for an early dinner. The antique-filled spot was packed with people of all ages – singles mingling over drinks at the bar, families watching their kids through the large open windows play with the owners dog on the sidewalk, and so on.

I sat down at the bar with a friend of mine, eager for a good meal. With a build-your-own-meal menu, I got to work – two vegetarian meatballs on a brioche bun with a side of arugula + apple salad. My friend took the same but with pork balls.

I have to admit, my vegetarian tongue was watering at the sight of her balls. With room still in our stomachs, we tackled the dessert menu, which is another build-your-own-menu for ice-cream sandwiches. Fresh baked cookies + homemade ice-cream = heaven on earth. We split a mint ice-cream (nothing like the store bought kind – we’re talkin’ real sprigs of mint mixed in) on chocolate chip cookies. Two words: Food Coma.

I found these incredibly eerie, bewitching shorts on Trendland with little (okay, basically zero) information on the background of these works.
